PortionLens ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. PortionLens is designed from the ground up to prioritize user privacy by processing artificial intelligence models and storing all health metrics entirely on your device.
2. On-Device AI & Data Storage
PortionLens utilizes on-device edge AI (Google Gemma) to analyze food images and generate personalized coaching insights.
- No Cloud Photo Processing: Food photos captured via camera or gallery are processed directly on your mobile device. Photos are never uploaded to external servers.
- Local Storage: All meal logs, nutritional breakdowns, and user settings are stored locally in an encrypted SQLite database on your device.
3. Health Connect & Fitness Data Disclosures
With your explicit consent, PortionLens connects to Google Health Connect (including data synced from Samsung Health or Google Fit) to provide unified health insights.
PortionLens requests read access to the following Health Connect data types:
- Steps: To monitor daily physical activity against your target goals.
- Total & Active Calories Burned: To calculate daily energy expenditure and net calorie balances.
- Heart Rate: To display daily heart rate trends alongside workout sessions.
- Sleep Sessions: To evaluate sleep duration and rest recovery patterns.
- Weight Logs: To track progress toward user-defined target weights.
Health Connect Data Protection Commitment: Health Connect data accessed by PortionLens is strictly used to display in-app dashboard metrics and inform on-device AI coaching. We do not sell, share, transmit, or monetize Health Connect data to advertising networks, data brokers, or third parties.
4. Camera & Device Permissions
PortionLens requests the following device permissions solely for app functionality:
- Camera Permission: Required to take real-time photos of meals for AI nutritional analysis.
- Photo Library Permission: Required to select existing meal images for nutritional logging.
5. Third-Party Sharing & Analytics
We do not use third-party tracking scripts, advertising networks, or analytics tools that sell user data. PortionLens does not track user identities across third-party websites or applications.
6. Data Retention & Deletion
Because all your data is stored locally on your device, you retain full control over your information at all times. You can delete individual meal records within the app or uninstall the application to permanently erase all locally stored database records and settings.
